Questions to Ask a Builder Before Starting an Extension

Before appointing a builder for a house extension or major renovation, it is worth asking a series of direct questions. A confident, experienced builder will answer these readily. Evasive or vague answers are a warning sign.

Questions About Experience and Track Record

  • How long have you been building extensions in Macclesfield and Cheshire?
  • Can I see examples of similar projects you have completed recently?
  • Can you provide references from recent customers?
  • Are you familiar with Cheshire East Council's planning requirements?

Questions About Insurance and Credentials

  • Can I see your public liability insurance certificate?

  • Will you manage the planning application if one is required?
  • Who will manage the Building Regulations process?
  • Will you provide a completion certificate at the end of the project?
